Cescon Barrieu adds two new partners to its tax practice in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados is reinforcing its tax team with the addition of two partners and seven associates. Aldo de Paula Júnior and André Alves de Melo will be partners, respectively, in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and will focus their work in the firm’s tax litigation practice.

“The key purpose of this movement is to strengthen our tax litigation practice, in both judicial and administrative spheres, and expand our capacity to meet every kind of demand for tax advice in Rio de Janeiro, including customs and social security issues, such as we already provide in the São Paulo. This will enable us to enhance our services offer to clients in Rio and, at the same time, broaden the tax litigation portfolio in the firm overall”, says Roberto Barrieu, founding partner and head of the tax area. “We expect that the Rio de Janeiro’s tax practice will shortly reach the same level of recognition that we have achieved in other areas, such as infrastructure and project finance, capital markets, banking and corporate law and M&A”, Barrieu concludes.

The tax team in Rio de Janeiro, where Rafael Santos is already leading consultancy tax legal advice team, will double in size with the arrival of André Alves de Melo in tax litigation. Associates Rodrigo Bevilaqua de Miranda Valverde, Érico Süssekind, Fernanda Cesário Stoeckli and Gabriela Honório Alcântara Bom, will integrate tax litigation team in Rio with André.

In São Paulo, the team now have six partners, two of them, Hugo Leal and Aldo de Paula Júnior, working full time on tax litigation. Associates Hans Bragtner Haendchen, Priscilla Moreno Takakura and Pedro Jacob will also be joining the team. With this strong team of tax litigation experts, the São Paulo office will be well structured to meet the growing demand from clients involving tax matters.

New partners
André graduated from Universidade Federal Fluminense – RJ, and is a member of the Customs Law Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-RJ), the Brazilian Finance Law Association (ABDF-RJ) and the Tax Debates Group (GDT-RJ), where he coordinates courses and seminars on tax law. Rodrigo graduated from PUC-Rio and was awarded an Executive MBA in Finance from IBMEC-RJ. Érico graduated from FGV-Rio, and has an LL.M in Tax Law from the same institution. Fernanda graduated from UFRJ, and is studying for an LL.M in Tax Law at FGV-Rio. Gabriela graduated from UFRJ and is currently doing an extension course in Tax Case Law (PJT).

Aldo holds a doctor’s and a master’s degree in Tax Law from PUC – SP, and lectures at IBET and FGV Law-SP (lato-sensu graduate degree and professional master’s degree programs). Hans is a master of Constitutional and Procedural Tax Law from PUC-SP, has an LL.M in Tax Law from INSPER, and is a sitting member of the OAB-SP Special Commission for Administrative Tax Litigation. Priscilla graduated from Mackenzie and has completed an extension in Tax Law at FGV Law-SP. And Pedro specialized in Tax Law at IBDT, and holds a master’s degree in Constitutional and Procedural Tax Law from PUC-SP.
